More Craft Time

It seems that "doing projects" is the theme every day now. I have been taking Molly's morning nap time to spend quality time with Samantha. I figure there are a number of benefits for doing this, but mostly, I better get used to setting up a "school time" since we plan on homeschooling. Samantha really enjoys this quality time. Like anyone, she likes to be focused on and talked to. When Molly is around, it's too easy to get distracted.

The latest things we have worked on are below. I really only post them for 2 reasons. A.) For my mom to see since she was always great at coming up with projects to do. And B.) If there are any moms out there that need ideas, or that have some... I welcome them!

We did this basket to work on colors. Samantha has known her colors for a long time now, but it's always good to reinforce them. And she worked on her gluing skills of course.

I made some colored pasta a few weeks ago. My good friend, Erica, had posted about doing this with her daughter and I have always kept it in the back of my head. I used dry pasta and put it in a bowl with either vinegar, or rubbing alcohol. (Both stunk, but I think the alcohol dried faster.) I make sure the pasta is covered, then mix in some food coloring. I also had some leftover tablets from the egg dying kits that worked really really well. Better then the food coloring for sure.

We are working on identifying letters. Samantha, at a very young age could pick out about 5 letters or so. She has really slowed down in learning more. Not that I am pushing. She is still young. But I thought that it really can not hurt to do fun projects with letters and encourage her to learn. As long as there is not tears of frustration, I will carry on. I found this Caterpillar online at this great website. We identified each lower case letter, and them glued on the body part. If you are interested check it out!

Samantha really impressed me with this next one. We were making a clown. And glued the pieces of the face on so well.

No little girl is complete without a paper dolly you can dress. We made a homemade one.

I found this watermelon project online. It's main purpose is to teach the child Ps. 34:8, "O taste and see that the Lord is good..."
Last but not least, I thought I would add this need little gizmo I found. I know for me, displaying all the art is an issue. I found a neat way to do that on the fridge. You take a ruler, and add magnets or magnet tape on the back and then glue on clips to the font. That way you can have a lot of art up, but not taking up the whole fridge. And you are not always looking for a magnet.

All great ideas! There's probably one or two of these that I may try to do in the next week or two. Thanks for sharing!

The colored noodles are so much fun and it looks like Samantha enjoys them as much as Eliana does. A spin off to that (with no coloring involved) is getting a variety of dried beans and letting Samantha sort them. We enjoy this one quite a bit and Daddy likes seeing his coffee beans put to good use! :o)
